Congratulations on what appears to be a very successful first quarter!
1. The Finley Carnival on Friday appears to have been a success. The barbeque was delicious and my kids enjoyed the games and treats provided!
2. Our attendance rate is holding strong this year so far. We are currently averaging about a 97.5% attendance rate district-wide. This is a VERY important number as it determines the district funding levels from year to year. This supports the fact that we are providing a very high quality, worthwhile program for our students! Keep up the great work each of you are doing.
3. Our last football game against Imperial was last Friday. Although we are not scheduled to meet them anytime next year, we hope to add them to our schedule when possible. Friday’s game, although lopsided, really showcased the heart and integrity of our football team. Outstanding sportsmanship was displayed and the Vikings really poured a lot into their play. The next two home games, this Friday and next, should be a lot of fun to watch.
4. The fence at Finley is going up and the reviews have all been positive. Of course, as it goes up, we notice certain areas that will need some adjusting, so it will be a few more weeks before it is completed.
5. Unfortunately, all the news this year is not so positive. As we move through the year, it is becoming increasingly obvious that the state budget that was passed just about a month ago is not going to hold up. I received an e-mail this morning that the state legislative analyst is predicting a shortfall this year of up to $20 Billion. It further stated that mid-year cuts are in the process of being proposed could cost schools up to $3-4Billion this year. As I hear more, I will be letting you know how we, as a District, will be responsibly responding to this fiscal crisis.
6. During the months of November and December, I will be holding community forums to allow the public to give me feedback on the direction of the District. Notes with dates will be going out sometime this week.
7. In observance of Veteran’s Day, the District Office will be closed both Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 10th and 11th.
8. I’m pleased to announce the following administrative changes, which will take place not later than November 10th:
Mitch Drye is coming to the District Office as our Director of Technology and Special Programs replacing Juan Leal who is now with Imperial.
Mario Garcia is now Principal at HMS.
Darrell Pechtl is now adding the title of Principal of Sam Webb High School to his current position as Asst. Principal at HHS.
Juan Aguilera has joined the district as the Asst. Principal at both Finley and HMS.
I’m sure they will each make a positive impact on the quality of education we provide here in Holtville.
