(These comments were submitted prior to last week's game against Imperial. I had to edit the letter for content and length.)
1. I have been going to Holtville football games for over 30 years. However, last Friday was the worst night I have ever had. Ok the sound system is new and loud, but I think I got serious hearing damage that night. I would like the announcer to sit in the middle of the grandstands so they can hear just how loud the speakers are. Nobody sits in the middle, the fans move over to the sides. Some people bring their own chairs and sit on the grass to not be blasted out of their ears. Seriously, what volume level is the amp set at, the maximum? it's so loud that the speakers themselves vibrate.
2.I used to like to buy a coke and candy and maybe a meat burrito. The concession stands used to be on the west side of the grandstands walking distance. However, the stands are now way over their on the east side of the grandstands about a 15 minute walk, so I didn't buy anything. No $ for the Junior Prom or other school projects will be raised.
3.I saw about 40 juveniles playing with football tackling, and running into each other on the east side of the grandstands. Oh, and the fence which was built to prevent kids from going under there, I saw 10-15 juveniles having a race to see who could jump over all the tubing without falling and breaking a collar bone or their skull.
Okay, thanks for the comments! Let me address them one at a time.
1. I agree that the speakers were a little loud. Apparently, one of them had slipped slightly from it's position and ended up facing down, directly into the section of the audience you mentioned. For the Imperial game, we adjusted the audio zone on the loud speaker to turn down the center volume. Hopefully, that made it a little less loud for those in the center. I've heard no complaints since that game, so for now I'm assuming it was taken care of.
2. The concession stand was moved many, many years ago. That tells me you are a LONG TIME supporter of Viking Football, and I greatly appreciate your support! While it would be nice to be able to move the snack bar closer to the grandstands, the reason for its move was simple - the electricity was not adequate to support the snack bars lights, etc. There was a constant problem with breakers flipping the power off, making for a dangerous situation. The cost to increase the power load to that side of the field was and is still cost prohibitive. We are still looking into alternatives as we always want to support our community and make everything as accessible and convenient as possible.
3. After each game our management team discusses improvements needed at games. At the first game, the southern practice field lights were left on and this seemed to be an invitation for students and their younger siblings to go and play there. At our Imperial game we kept the lights off and it seemed to diminish this problem.
Again, I thank you for supporting Viking Football and look forward to seeing you at games in the future!
