Any reports of damage after all these aftershocks?

Apparently, we didn’t get off as easily as we initially thought. The Middle School, either from the initial 7.2 quake or one of the aftershocks, has a major electrical problem. One of our underground wires that supplies power to 12 classrooms has shorted out, most likely from a shift in the underground conduit. We have had electricians on scene and they estimate repairs could take up to two weeks.

On Friday, the Division of State Architects Office will be on site to assist us in deciding which solution is best and authorize us to complete the work under an emergency order. Unfortunately, we have no guarantee as to whether or not we will be reimbursed for the work that has to be completed.

As for students, by late Friday, we will decide how to house the students that will be displaced during the repairs necessary. It is possible that we will have to move some of the students to the Finley campus for up to two weeks. If this is the case, our maintenance and janitorial crews will set up furniture in classrooms on Saturday and we will have students move their supplies over on Monday.

Hopefully, after another inspection tomorrow, no other problems will arise.

The most important thing to remember and be thankful for is that no has been injured and that the earthquake took place during a non-school day.

Al parecer, no fue tan fácilmente la situación como se pensaba inicialmente. La Escuela Secundaria (HMS), ya sea desde el terremoto inicial de 7,2 o una de las réplicas, tiene un problema eléctrico importante. Es posible que tendremos que mover algunos de los estudiantes a la escuela Finley para un máximo de dos semanas. Si este es el caso, nuestros servicios de mantenimiento y limpieza llevaran muebles a las aulas el sábado y vamos a hacer que los estudiantes mueven sus útiles el lunes.

Esperemos que, después de otra inspección mañana, no haya más problemas. Lo más importante para recordar y agradecer es que no hay heridos y que el terremoto tuvo lugar durante un día no escolar.
