How did the first day of school go?

What a great question! On Monday, August 25th, over 1650 students walked on to the campuses of our five schools to begin the 2008-2009 school year. Dressed in their new school clothes, backpacks bulging and smiles all around, the students seemed eager to get into their new classes, meet their teachers and survey the rooms for old friends.

Each of the schools looks wonderful! The grass is greener than ever, the classrooms and bathrooms scrubbed up and ready. The teachers seemed to be just as excited as the kids, greeting them with great enthusiasm.

I really enjoyed visiting each school that first morning. I especially enjoyed seeing all of our new kindergarten students, most with big smiles, a few with tears of uncertainty, but an eagerness to see what was inside those big classrooms.

I couldn't help but notice the mix of both sadness and great relief from the parents as the summer ends and the students are back at school. I'm confident this is going to be a great year for our students and staff. I'm hopeful that parents will also find that the schools are here for them and decide that now is the time to volunteer.

Together we CAN make this the best year Holtville schools have seen for a long time!
