Mr. LeDoux,
It is a great pleasure to have you as the Superintendent for Holtville Unified School District. As a parent a have a concern in regards to the transportation for IVROP programs. There are currently two young ladies that will be attending the Nursing Program in Brawley everyday from 1:15 to 4:15. Transportation is not being provided. It is my understanding that IVROP subsidize the schools for transportation. These two young ladies will have to drive everyday which in return with gas prices it will definitely make a dent in the parents pocket when it is not necessary, due to the school being subsidized by the program. I would like to request that a van be used to transport these ladies to the program.
Also, we definitely have to try to bring back support and awareness to the high school students of the IVROP class that are available for them and to assist them in getting there. Some of these courses may be the only training that some of the students will ever received during their course of education that may provide some type of experience to obtain a job.
May you please assist me in this matter or if I need to speak to someone else may you please direct me.
Thank you for the question!
I did check into this and the result at this point isn’t too favorable. Since this is an ROP class, the expenses must be paid by ROP. IVROP only provides transportation expense when there are five or more students that require transportation to a particular class. With only two, they are unable to pay for the expense. I have a few ideas I will be sharing with their director to see how we can make some sort of accommodation for these two students. I will get back to you again as soon as I can get through to her. Thank you for your patience.
It should be noted, however, that we are always looking for new courses and opportunities for our students. This semester, through IVROP, we are offering a new class the High School campus. "Medical Terminologies" is a great introduction to the medical field for those students interested in entering the nursing, pharmacology or other medical fields. The class is proving to be very popular at the high school. We will continue to work with IVROP and other agencies to continue to expand our course offerings.
